3 Idiots is superlative entertainment

If there is a film with a deeply moveable message and entertaining at the same time, it has to be 3 Idiots in 2009. The film rocks. While many say the second half is not as good as the first half, it’s rubbish. The film doesn’t fail to entertain you and keep you glued to [...]

3 Idiots is all-time blockbuster already

Wonder what’s working for Aamir Khan… Last Christmas, Ghajini shattered all box office records.
And this Xmas, 3 Idiots has shattered Ghajini’s record too.
The film grossed Rs 93 crore worldwide on its first weekend and did better on Monday than Saturday.
This is unheard of, unimaginable and unforeseen.
Kudos, Aamir! Congrats, Rajkumar Hirani!

Love Aaj Kal packs a punch; surpasses Ghajini

What was highly anticipated, has finally come true. Imtiaz ‘Jab We Met’ Ali’s Love Aaj Kal has lived up to its name. At some centres, it even surpassed the monster collections of Ghajini. While Kambakhht Ishq has turned out to be an ‘above average’ film and New York a confirmed ‘hit’, this one is all [...]

Aamir’s evolution as an actor

A friend of mine is writing a book on Aamir Khan. Nah, it’s not an authorised or an unauthorised biography. It’s a chronicle of him as an actor - his evolution, really. While speaking to a range of people who have worked with him, one person’s quotable quote stood out during her research.
The person was [...]

Kambakhht Ishq falls in second week

This Akshay Kumar starrer may have garnered over Rs 47 crore from the first two weeks, but the film is far from being a super hit. In fact, experts say that the lifetime distributor margin which decides if the film is a hit or a flop is way below Singh is Kinng, Rab Ne Bana [...]

Kambakhht Ishq surpasses Singh is Kinng and Ghajini

Opening weekends have become a recent box office phenomena where the producers recover their investment. Some of the biggies that have done good of late include Om Shanti Om, Ghajini, Welcome and Singh is Kinng. Joining this list is yet another Akshay Kumar starrer Kambakhht Ishq. Not only has it surpassed Singh is Kinng on [...]

Slumdog Millionaire isn’t the best work of AR Rahman, Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Gulzar

Much has been said about Danny ‘Trainspotting’ Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, its Golden Globe win, and its 10 Oscar nominations, and the fact that it’s India’s triumph just as it is a Britisher’s. However, it isn’t an Indian film to begin with. So we shouldn’t be all too happy that we are being recognised at the [...]

Why Ghajini shouldn’t be an all-time blockbuster

The stupendous success of Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini (it made Rs 200 crore worldwide at last count and is recognised as an all-time Bollywood blockbuster) is making me wonder if the film really deserved it. Here is why I think it isn’t really a great film:
1. It’s not an original story. The main premise of [...]

Will Ghajini’s Asin be a competition to other Bollywood actresses?

There is much talk about Ghajini’s monster opening at the box office (it raked in Rs 192 crore worldwide in just two weeks) and the appeal of its lead actress Asin.
While she is already a star in the south, there is now talk that she could dwarf other Bollywood heroines like Priyanka Chopra and Katrina [...]

Top Ten Bollywood films to watch out for!

I am eagerly looking forward to SRK’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi slated for December 12, 2008. Directed by the magical Aditya Chopra, his first outing as director in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ was mythical (a theatre in Mumbai is still playing one show of the film for the last ten years - an all-time [...]
