Aamir’s evolution as an actor

A friend of mine is writing a book on Aamir Khan. Nah, it’s not an authorised or an unauthorised biography. It’s a chronicle of him as an actor - his evolution, really. While speaking to a range of people who have worked with him, one person’s quotable quote stood out during her research.

The person was no one else but Aamir’s uncle Mansoor Khan who directed him in his very first film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, and went on to do Akele Hum Akele Tum and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. He said that Aamir’s greatest evolution as an actor from the time he did his first film in 1988 is that ‘he can morph into anyone now’.

True indeed. If Aamir can give most self-obsessed youngsters a complex with his eight-pack avatar in Ghajini, he can also play a complete idiot and humble you in 3 Idiots. That’s him - a complete actor. My only quibble with Aamir is that he takes himself too seriously, or atleast that’s how it comes through in his many public and screen appearances. Maybe, he should tone down a bit and chillax. Right, Aamir?
