Kidnap recovers costs! Drona turns out to be a disaster!

When the first day results were out, the Imran Khan starrer Kidnap turned out to have an excellent opening all over India. Averaging at 85% occupancy levels in theatres, one thought it would be a hit if not a super hit. However, the results have shown that though the producers have recovered their costs, the distributors have a loser on their hands.

However, this hasn’t dented the market of Imran Khan who debuted in ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ which turned out to be a super hit. And this time, it has been a role reversal for him. He plays the villain in this fast-paced thriller and if anything, he has walked away with all the honours.

On the other hand, the Abhishek Bachchan starrer Drona has turned out to be a bigger disaster than epic turkeys like Anil Kapoor’s Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja and Ram Gopal Varma’s RGV Ki Aag. Bad news again for its producer Goldie Behl whose previous outing was a mammoth flop too in the name of Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai.

MY VIEW: Imran Khan is raw, promising and has the backing of the magical Aamir Khan. Since 60% of the movie going audience comprise the youth, they identify with Imran more than Abhishek because he’s young, adventurous and shrewd in choosing films that work for him, ofcourse with his uncle’s help. Therefore, between him and Abhishek, Imran has the clear edge. You might argue that Abhishek has Amitabh for guidance, but his father isn’t as shrewd as Aamir in marketing a film and branding an actor.
